When Should I Braai? Braai Etiquette.
When Should I Braai?
Most South Africans braai at least once a week and don’t need a reason to light the coals. We braai weekdays, on the weekend, and anytime we want family and friends to gather. Most South Africans braai on Christmas because the weather is great and everyone is around the pool. The perfect time to braai is always!
It's More Than a Meal!
It's an experience! Most of the socializing happens waiting for the charcoal to get to the correct heat! Then the fun begins with everyone's opinion on how long to keep the boerewors on the flames, when to turn it, and how to long to cook it!
What exactly is a boerie roll?
It's a unique take on the hot dog, featuring boerewors placed inside a long bun. Typically, it's served with a delightful topping of tomato, chili, and onion relish or chakalaka. Alternatively, some individuals may opt for Boerewors stew, a delicious dish that pairs the sausage with mashed potatoes or pap.
Keep a glass of water close by!
Always keep a glass of water ready incase those flames flare up. You don’t want them to char the boerewors! (Move the meat out of the flame before dousing the flames with liquid – just enough to stop the flames, not wet the charcoal, because you don’t want to put the fire out!)
